TIPS & TRICKS - Incrusted Double J Stent in Pelvis

How to Remove an Incrusted Double J Stent by Using a Holmium Laser

If a patient has a severely incrusted double J stent, which, despite treating the sounding incrustation with the holmium laser, its catheter remains in place, the following option should be considered:

The surgeon may cut the double J in half with the holmium laser set at 1 joule and 10 hertz and with short pulses to release the catheter and take it out in pieces. Once the distal part of the catheter is pulled out, the proximal portion may be pushed to the pelvis to treat the surrounding incrustation more easily.
